Relaxin' remains one of Davis' best releases, a prime example of one of the 20th century's exceptional ensembles reaching the pinnacle of their art A masterpiece in every way. Like the other titles, Relaxin' contains a variety of material that the band had performed at the same time in their concerts: the pattern is perfect for Davis (trumpet), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Philly Joe Jones (drums) and Red Garland (piano ). The results are consistently superior in both song selection and performance. Davis' solos are impressive: listening to the numerous variations he offers throughout the song makes you understand how intrigued Davis must have been by the melody, since it remained in his repertoire for decades. This release is part of the New Ermitage collection available from January 2024: 18 jazz and soul titles reissued on yellow vinyl with new codes and renewed graphics
