Lael’s Acquainted With Night is a stripped-back, poetic album featuring her crystalline voice over lush Omnichord, exploring themes of isolation, mortality, and transcendence. After struggling with overproduction, she embraced simplicity, recording raw first takes on cassette with Guy Blakeslee’s support. Though recorded during a personal transition, the album captures her time in Los Angeles and rural Virginia, with standout tracks like the ode to LA, “Every Star Shivers in the Dark,” and the personal anthem “Blue Vein.”
