Formed in 1985, The Wedding Present emerged from the C86 scene with fast-paced jangle-pop and sharp lyrics by founder David Gedge. Building on the success of their debut George Best, they gained attention in 1992 by releasing a single each month, all reaching the UK Top 40. Signed to Island Records, the lineup recorded Watusi in Seattle with producer Steve Fisk, blending razor-sharp grunge-influenced indie with melodic hooks. Highlights include singles “Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah” and “It’s A Gas,” plus heartfelt tracks like “Big Rat” and “Gazebo,” showcasing Gedge’s acclaimed songwriting.
