Powerslave (1984) is a landmark Iron Maiden album that pushed the band’s epic, progressive metal style to new heights. With its ancient Egyptian-themed cover and ambitious scope, it features some of Maiden’s most iconic tracks. The blazing opener “Aces High” captures the fury of aerial combat, while “2 Minutes to Midnight” delivers a hard-hitting anti-war message. The title track dives into themes of power and mortality, but the centrepiece is the 13-minute epic “Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” a dramatic retelling of Coleridge’s poem that showcases the band’s narrative and musical prowess.
