Despite its playful title, POPtical Illusion continues the fierce anger of Cale’s 2023 album Mercy, railing against destructive capitalism and deceit. Yet it’s no sequel or leftovers—Cale’s restless creativity spans classical, rock, songcraft, and electronic reinvention. On this album, he mostly works solo with synthesizers, samples, and keyboards, delivering lyrics that offer swirling hope and a call for change. Produced with longtime partner Nita Scott, POPtical Illusion reflects Cale’s ongoing drive to embrace the future.
