The album title, Heavens to Murgatroyd, even!, comes from Snagglepuss, a Hanna-Barbera cartoon lion, and was famously used by The Downliners Sect in their track intro. Released in 1990 on Sub Pop—a label known for US grunge—the album landed there thanks to Steve Turner of Mudhoney discovering Thee Mighty Caesars in England and promoting them to the Seattle scene. Recorded at Red Studios in Kent, the sessions were memorable (with some marsh gas involved), featuring Ollie Dolot on bass briefly before he was replaced. The new edition has fresh artwork closer to the band’s vision and includes two non-album tracks originally released as singles. Standout songs include “We're Gone,” “Rusty Hook,” “Troubled Mind,” and “Girl From ‘62.” They also covered Leadbelly’s “Stewball,” inspired by their admiration for him and his influence on Kurt Cobain.
