Toronto-based Meg Remy (U.S. Girls) announces Scratch It, a new album co-written with Edwin de Goeji. The centrepiece, “Bookends,” honours Remy’s late friend Riley Gale, inspired by historical eyewitness accounts exploring suffering and death as the great equalizer.
After a successful festival show in Arkansas with a Nashville-based band assembled by guitarist Dillon Watson, Remy recorded Scratch It live off the floor in just ten days with Watson, Jack Lawrence, Domo Donoho, Jo Schornikow, Tina Norwood, and harmonica legend Charlie McCoy. The album blends country, gospel, garage rock, soul, disco, and folk, featuring Remy’s most relaxed vocal performances to date.
Switching from computer production to analog tape, Scratch It showcases Remy’s instinctual, shapeshifting artistry nearly two decades into her career.
