Brighton-based Australian artist Penelope Trappes releases A Requiem, a haunting album of ten ambient soundscapes exploring dreams, grief, and power through raw, gothic experimentalism. Recorded in isolation in Scotland, Trappes uses evocative cello drones—despite no formal training—to accompany her voice and channel deep emotions. The album is a vulnerable, spiritual journey confronting loss and healing. Though trained in opera and jazz, Trappes began writing music after motherhood, challenging industry norms that overlook women over 30, celebrating creativity’s growth with age.
