A collaboration between industrial breakbeat pioneer Jack Dangers (Meat Beat Manifesto) and Japanese noise icon Masami Akita (Merzbow), Extinct is a dense and immersive exploration of rhythm and decay. The duo deconstructs beat and structure, reshaping them through layers of feedback and finely controlled noise.
The 20-minute opener “!FLAKKA¡” gradually dismantles evolving breakbeats, transforming them into a powerful fusion of harsh noise and fractured rhythm. Closing track “Burner” pushes this further, reducing its core beat to near abstraction amid waves of distortion and disintegrating sound.
Raw, intense, and uncompromising, Extinct is a striking and cohesive work that highlights the unique strengths of both artists.
