To mark its 25th anniversary, XL reissues Leila’s groundbreaking 2000 album Courtesy of Choice in an expanded edition. Originally a futuristic, genre-defying transmission that followed her Like Weather debut, the album’s influence has only grown across her collaborations and boundary-pushing performances.
Leila, ever singular, frames her approach simply: “My commitment is to noise.”
Courtesy of Choice… asides and besides pairs the original album—including the once-vinyl-only “Relax the Pleasuredome”—with twenty previously unheard tracks. Rather than remake the record, Leila carefully re-edited it to reveal buried details while preserving its original spirit. The new material ranges from Roya Arab’s rendition of “Mein Herr” to surreal collages, hypnotic experiments, and digi-rave eruptions, underscoring the album’s lasting boldness and forward momentum.
