Flamagra is the sixth studio album by American producer Flying Lotus (Steven Ellison), released on May 24, 2019, via Warp Records. Following the experimental jazz-funk of You're Dead! (2014), Flamagra expands into a maximalist, genre-blending tapestry, incorporating elements of jazz, hip-hop, electronic, funk, and psychedelia. The album's creation spanned five years, during which Ellison channelled his experiences with California wildfires into a conceptual framework exploring themes of fire, transformation, and resilience.
Flamagra features an impressive roster of collaborators, including Anderson .Paak, George Clinton, Solange, Tierra Whack, Thundercat, Little Dragon, Denzel Curry, Shabazz Palaces, and David Lynch. The album's lead single, "Fire Is Coming," features a spoken-word performance by Lynch, setting a surreal tone for the project.
