After relocating to Weston-super-Mare in 1999, Coil’s John Balance and Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson created their late-era masterpiece Musick To Play In The Dark, hailed as an artistic zenith. The album’s sessions were so productive that a second LP, Musick To Play In The Dark², emerged alongside it. With Welsh multi-instrumentalist Thighpaulsandra, the band delved deeper into “moon music,” blending surreal electronica, narcotic influences, and nocturnal energies. The album features dark, experimental soundscapes, with Scottish gothic singer Rose McDowall contributing vocals on two tracks, but remains largely a hermetic collaboration that showcases their unique creative chemistry.
