Following the groundbreaking 1990 Love’s Secret Domain, Coil continued work on Backwards, begun in 1992 and developed through 1995 before being completed in 1996 at Trent Reznor’s Nothing Studios in New Orleans. The album showcases Jhonn Balance’s refined, haunting vocals and reaches new artistic heights. After 23 years, Danny Hyde has preserved these tracks in pristine quality. Unlike the later 2008 The New Backwards, this release features the original versions of beloved tracks like “A Cold Cell” and “Fire Of The Mind,” serving as the essential bridge between LSD and the Musick To Play In The Dark series. Though delayed for years, it is finally available—exactly as intended.
