Originally released in 1979 and now reissued on coloured vinyl, this special edition of The Sugarhill Gang’s debut album includes the essential single version of “Rapper’s Delight.” The group’s landmark 1979 hit became the first rap single to reach the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40, and here both the full 14-minute album version and the single edit are featured. Rounding out the LP are several down-tempo soul tracks and a disco instrumental, reflecting an era when hip-hop alone had yet to anchor a full-length release.
