Conflict formed in 1981 in Eltham, Southeast London, led by Colin Jerwood and influenced by the Sex Pistols and The Clash. Supported early on by anarchist punk collective Crass, who released their 1982 debut single, the band carried forward Crass’s legacy after their split in 1984, becoming a leading force in politically charged punk.

They rose to prominence through the 1980s, peaking with the 1987 “Gathering of the 5,000” concert at Brixton Academy, which ended in a riot, leaving the band banned from many venues and in debt. Despite this, Conflict remained active through the 1990s and beyond, releasing albums like Conclusion and There’s No Power Without Control (2003).

Now returning with This Much Remains, the band blends their confrontational roots with new material, addressing themes like animal rights and political anger, and featuring a contribution from Benjamin Zephaniah.
