Robert Johnson’s landmark 1936/37 recordings shaped generations of artists, including Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Eric Clapton. Though his records sold poorly during his lifetime and he mainly performed in juke joints and on street corners, his music reached a wider audience with the 1961 release of King Of The Delta Blues Singers.

Today, Johnson is regarded as a pioneering figure in Mississippi Delta blues, one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and among the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His mysterious life inspired the enduring legend that he sold his soul to the devil at a Mississippi crossroads — a myth that became central to blues folklore.

Now remastered, the original 1961 collection of his 1936/37 recordings captures Johnson’s music with renewed clarity and vitality.
