Released in the UK in January 1967, Between The Buttons is the Rolling Stones’ fifth UK and seventh US studio album, following Aftermath. Marking a high point in their career, it blends psychedelia and baroque pop with eclectic instrumentation—Brian Jones plays organ, marimba, vibraphone, and kazoo, while pianists Ian Stewart and Jack Nitzsche contribute. Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham in his final work with the band, the album features striking cover art by Gered Mankowitz, capturing the band’s ethereal, late-night vibe.

Lyrically sharp and socially observant, the album mixes raw rock with influences from The Beatles, The Kinks, and Dylan. Highlights include brooding tracks like All Sold Out, My Obsession, and Yesterday’s Papers, the romantic She Smiled Sweetly, and Keith Richards’ first solo vocal on Something Happened To Me Yesterday. The US version adds the double-sided #1 hits Let’s Spend The Night Together and Ruby Tuesday.
