Aske is a reissue of the Norwegian black metal project’s 1993 EP, recorded in 1992. Meaning “ashes” in Norwegian, Aske captures Burzum’s early, raw and suffocatingly feral sound, built around distorted guitars, haunting screams and an atmosphere of bleakness, sadness and existential despair. A stark early example of the genre’s darker, more oppressive side.
