Sonic Youth returned to indie label Matador for their 16th album, The Eternal. Released in 2009, it’s a powerful rocker echoing their Evol-Sister-Daydream Nation era but with cleaner, louder production and a driving pace. Produced by John Agnello, the album builds on the melodic style of Rather Ripped with more energy. Recorded at their Echo Canyon West studio, it features shared vocals by Kim, Thurston, and Lee, plus the studio debut of touring bassist Mark Ibold. The cover art was created by the late John Fahey.
