In 2005, Sonic Youth prepared for their 2006 album by touring Japan, New York, and LA, and releasing a deluxe edition of Goo. After collaborator Jim O’Rourke left to focus on Japanese studies, the band returned to its core lineup. Recorded at NYC’s Sear Sound and mixed with John Agnello, Rather Ripped features 12 energetic tracks with vocals shared by Thurston, Kim, and Lee, driven by Steve’s solid rhythms. The album blends melodic surprises with Sonic Youth’s signature edgy rock, showcasing a focused, vibrant sound.
