End Times, the eighth Eels album, is a raw, deeply personal "divorce record" from frontman Mark Oliver Everett (E), capturing the pain of lost love amid a world losing its moral compass. Self-recorded on a four-track in his Los Angeles basement, it reflects on personal despair and societal decay, equating emotional collapse with cultural disintegration. Unlike the fictional perspective of Hombre Lobo, End Times is starkly real, echoing the emotional intensity of 1998's Electro-Shock Blues—but this time focused on heartbreak, not death.
