Formed in Great Yarmouth in 1990, Catherine Wheel carved a unique path through the '90s, often labeled shoegaze but never fitting neatly into grunge or Britpop. Compared to early Radiohead for their emotional depth and sonic ambition, the band pushed their sound further with 1995’s Happy Days—a blend of heavy rock, ambient textures, and experimentation. Featuring harmonica from Mark Feltham and guest vocals from Tanya Donelly, the album spans from immersive soundscapes to soaring shoegaze anthems like “Shocking” and “Judy Staring Up At The Sun.”
