X-Ray Spex, emerging in the late 1970s, were known for their distinctive sound, socially conscious lyrics, and dynamic frontwoman Poly Styrene. Their 1978 debut, Germfree Adolescents, is a punk classic. Poly’s unique vocals, sharp critiques of consumerism, and bold stage presence made the band a key part of punk’s first wave. Though short-lived, disbanding in 1979, X-Ray Spex left a lasting legacy. Poly Styrene’s influence endures following her passing in 2011.
