Wattstax, the historic 1972 benefit concert organized by Stax Records, brought over 100,000 people to the L.A. Memorial Coliseum for landmark performances by Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, Rufus Thomas, and more, with Rev. Jesse Jackson delivering his famous “I Am Somebody” speech.
For its 50th anniversary, Stax reissues Wattstax: The Living Word 2, a 2-LP set cut from the original tapes, featuring performances by The Emotions, Johnnie Taylor, Kim Weston, and Isaac Hayes.
