Tricky returns with Different When It’s Silent, his 15th album and first under his own name in six years, released via False Idols. It reconnects with the stark, genre-blending style of Maxinquaye while taking a more direct, stripped-back approach.
The single “Out Of Place,” featuring Marta, closes the album with a tense mix of restrained vocals and urgent delivery. Recorded between France and Bristol, the record also highlights Mitch Sanders, whose falsetto shapes much of its sound.
Blending blues, electronics, hip-hop, and distorted guitars, the album is a focused, powerful reminder of Tricky’s enduring, experimental voice.
