Discharge, a British hardcore punk band formed in 1977, is known for their raw, politically charged sound featuring heavy distortion, shouted vocals, and anarchist themes. Their 1982 debut Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing was a landmark album, influencing thrash, black metal, crust punk, and grindcore, and inspiring the d-beat genre named after their signature drum style. Despite lineup changes and a brief shift to glam metal in 1986, Discharge’s impact grew, with bands like Metallica and Anthrax covering their songs. Reuniting in 2001, they returned to their aggressive roots with the 2002 self-titled album. Their 2016 release on Nuclear Blast showcases them at their fiercest, proving their music and message remain urgently relevant.
