In Dawnbreaker, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig (aka Daughter of Swords) transforms the quiet unraveling of a relationship into a hopeful, forward-looking solo debut. Written before a breakup that felt inevitable, the album explores the tension between loss and the lure of new beginnings. After nearly a decade away from music following the rise of her trio Mountain Man, Sauser-Monnig returned to songwriting while working as a farmhand, eventually collaborating with Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sanborn to shape reflective acoustic sketches into luminous folk-pop. Rather than mournful laments, the ten tracks—rooted in vivid storytelling and quiet resilience—offer bittersweet clarity and a warm embrace of the unknown.
