Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, nominated for 10 Academy Awards and shot in vintage VistaVision, follows architect László Toth (Adrien Brody) rebuilding his life post-war. Daniel Blumberg’s ambitious score blends brass, piano, and improvisational jazz, reflecting the film’s Brutalist aesthetic of raw textures and simplicity.
Blumberg recorded with avant-garde musicians across Europe using a custom remote setup, capturing rich, precise performances. A live jazz quartet performed improvised themes for a key club scene, while synth-pop pioneer Vince Clarke contributed a reworked main theme for the 1980s epilogue. The score was mixed and co-produced by Peter Walsh, longtime collaborator of Blumberg and Scott Walker.
