2026 marks the 50th anniversary of Cymande’s Promised Heights, the final album in their seminal early ’70s trilogy following Cymande (1972) and Second Time Round (1973). Featuring beloved and heavily sampled tracks like “Brothers On The Slide,” the album blends reggae bass, Afro‑Nyabinghi percussion, psychedelic rock, and funk into the band’s signature “Nyah-rock” sound. Recorded after touring the US with Al Green and becoming the first British band to perform at Harlem’s Apollo Theater, Promised Heights cemented Cymande’s place as pioneers of Black British music.
