In the late ’90s, Coil relocated to Weston-super-Mare, expanding their lineup and doubling their output. Inspired by Thighpaulsandra, they embraced new tech to perform live for the first time, leading to a more spontaneous, electronic sound showcased on Black Antlers.
Completed after Jhonn Balance’s death, the album blends rhythmic beats, hypnotic drones, and experimental textures, featuring contributions from key collaborators. Highlights include “Teenage Lightning (10th Birthday Version),” “The Gimp (Sometimes),” and a haunting cover of “All The Pretty Little Horses,” marking a bold, final chapter in Coil’s groundbreaking legacy.
