Soul Jazz Records are releasing three ultra-limited albums from Brown Spirits, each pressed on special coloured vinyl in editions of just 500 copies and deleted immediately upon release.
Originally issued in tiny, now long-unavailable runs—either self-released in Australia or via a small German psych label—Brown Spirits #2 and #3 have been virtually impossible to find. Their earlier Soul Jazz releases, Cosmic Seeds and Solitary Transmissions, are also sold out on vinyl.
Hailing from Melbourne’s thriving underground scene—alongside acts like Amyl and the Sniffers, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Tropical Fuck Storm—Brown Spirits deliver a heavy, high-energy fusion of psychedelic rock, krautrock, free jazz, and deep 1970s funk.
Comprised of Tim Wold, Agostino Soldati, and Ash Bushcombe, the trio maintain a strict DIY ethos, recording and mixing their music to ¼-inch analogue tape at home. Their raw, immersive sound and scarcity of releases have made them a cult favourite among psych collectors.
