John Barrett returns as Bass Drum of Death with his second full-length for LA label Innovative Leisure, Rip This. Elevating the band beyond the garage rock underground, the album blends raw, original energy with the best of American rock. Barrett, who first emerged from Oxford, Mississippi’s local scene and gained attention through early releases, collaborations with Odd Future’s Mellowhype, and a feature on GTA V’s Vinewood Boulevard radio, hits his stride here. Unlike previous solo-driven recordings, Rip This was crafted with drummer Len Clark and UMO bassist Jacob Portrait over two weeks at Prairie Sun Studios, marking Bass Drum of Death’s first fully collaborative studio album.
