A fully remastered 65th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers with Thelonious Monk features an extra disc of mostly previously unreleased outtakes, liner notes by Grammy-winner Ashley Kahn, photos, and Atlantic memorabilia. Recorded in May 1957, this one-off session marked Monk’s only appearance on Atlantic and a historic collaboration with Blakey’s ever-evolving Jazz Messengers collective. The album blends Monk’s inventive melodies with Blakey’s driving swing, showcasing Johnny Griffin (tenor sax), Bill Hardman (trumpet), and Spanky DeBrest (bass).
